Datamax E-Class Labels Datamax barcode labels come in direct thermal and thermal transfer.  Direct thermal barcode labels do not require the use of a ribbon.  Thermal transfer barcode labels require a ribbon for use.  Please refer here if you would like to learn more about the difference between direct thermal and thermal transfer  barcode labels. The Datamax EX2 is a direct thermal barcode label printer only.  The Datamax E-4203, E-4204, and E-4304 are able to print direct thermal and thermal transfer barcode labels.  The E-Class printers outer diameter label size is 4 inches to 5 inches and the inner core size is 1 inch.  The media width for the E-Class ranges from 1 inch to 4.12 inches.  To see the differences between the E-Class printers, please refer to the chart below.
